Okay, people, it’s time for one of those posts that are going to be a little bit different from the rest, but are hopefully still going to be fun and informative for a lot of you folks! Recently, I took a look at my analytics (basically, it’s some stats that allow you to see what content on your site is popular) in order to decide what type of content you guys enjoy the best, so that I’d write more about that. If my post about metal videogames had the most views and shares, I’d write another post about videogames; If my post about concerts proved to be most popular, I’d go back to writing about concerts. Simple as that! But, much to my surprise, it turned out that the content that was most popular on this site, by FAR, were my articles about online casino. Funny how that works, huh – surprisingly, there’s lots of metal heads that like to play online slots. Well, the popular vote has won out, and I decided to experiment and try out an article that has very little to do with metal, but a lot to do with gambling. Don’t worry – even if this article does super well, we’re not turning this into a gambling blog, it’ll still be for metal first and foremost. But I’m curious how it’s going to turn out!
Anyway, for today, I’d love to discuss the topic of high rolling, because it’s one that’s utterly fascinating to me. I mean, if regular gambling was like “Master of Puppets”, high rolling would be kind of like “Spit Out The Bone” – just going completely all out! To put it in much more simply, complicated metal metaphors (or as I like to call them, metalphors) aside, to be a high roller generally means to spend a whole lot of money on gambling. No, that’s not quite right, because people who are addicted to gambling also spend a ton of cash sitting in front of their local slot machines all day, but nobody’s calling them high rollers. Being a high roller generally refers to not only betting a ton, but A) betting it in a short amount of time, and B) betting it in such a way so that you know how to make your money back. High rollers are basically the elite gamblers, the people in suits that truly know what they’re doing inside any casino. If you’ve ever seen someone play blackjack and win just a little too much, chances are they’re either counting cards or are a high roller… Or both.
And indeed, blackjack is the most popular game for high rolling, simply because it provides the most amount of skill and the least amount of variables. Blackjack is probably the only casino game out there that can genuinely be “beaten” by players that know exactly how to play it, unlike other games like slots and roulette which are mostly up to luck, and the only reason why most casinos even keep it around in the first place is because of its popularity and how iconic it is. A casino without blackjack just isn’t the same! Of course, a good part of what makes black “winnable” stems from the fact that you’re allowed to watch other people play and can jump in when the chance for a good hand is sufficiently big to be worth the risk. That advantage is eliminated online, but naturally, that hasn’t really stopped a lot of high rollers from playing high stakes blackjack here, or on one of the numerous other online casino sites that support it. But I digress.
So, I suppose the question that everyone has on their minds is “Can I be a high roller?” And the answer is… No, probably not. It takes a very, very specific kind of mindset and skillset in order to be a high roller. First of all, you obviously need to have the money that you can bet – high rolling works on a “high risk, high reward” kind of system, so unless you’re betting a lot, it doesn’t really work. You also need the knowledge and bravery to pull something like this off, and last, but not least, you actually need to want to do it. I mean, if you’ve got the capital to be a high roller, you might as well invest it into something like a small business, or buy yourself a car or something along those lines! Very, very few people who come upon a fortune, in one way or another, have both the skills and the motivation to use it for high rolling, and out of all of them, even fewer do it successfully. But hey – that’s why we can always admire the ones that do! They’re the real metal stars of the casino world!
